Basic electrical Tests and knowledge Tips
Don't skip these simple tests when diagnosing modern vehicle electrical and drive-ability problems.
Computer controlled vehicle need a good steady supply of voltage and current to work properly.
At
the heart of this computer controlled system is the the Battery,
Alternator, and the wiring connecting the battery to the Computer,
Engine, and Body.
We want to test the Battery. And the wiring connecting the Battery to the Computer, Engine, and Body using a simple Voltage drop test.
Here is what to test:
Do a
Battery test (link)
Do a
Voltage drop Test of:
- The battery and battery cables. Typical voltage drop maximums: 0.20 volts
- The battery negative (-) side to the engine. (Engine Ground test) Typical voltage drop maximums: 0.20 volts
- The battery negative (-) side to body. (Body Ground test) Typical voltage drop maximums: 0.20 volts
- The Battery positive (+) side to the Positive (+) Buss or starter solenoid. Typical voltage drop maximums: 0.20 volts
